In ArcGIS Server Manager, you can create a KML network link to the server from a map service. You must have a map service running with the KML capability enabled. To get started, follow these steps.
- Open Manager and log in. If you need help with this step, see Logging in to Manager.
- Click Services > KML Network Links > Create Network Link.
- Specify the name of your link. The name you specify is used as the file name and is embedded in the Name tag of the network link file.
- Optionally, specify the External Hostname.
- Optionally, provide short and long descriptions. The long description allows embedded HTML tags and URLs.
- Optionally, specify the snippet behavior. By default, snippets are not configured to appear.
- Click Next.
- Choose the map service for which you want to create a network link. Map services for which you have disabled the KML capability are not available.
- Check the layers from the service that you want to include in your network link. By default, all layers are selected.
- Specify how the layers should be drawn. The first two options return rasterized representations of your vector features. The third option returns the actual vectors.
- Optionally, set the default compatibility mode to a specific Google client.
- Click Next.
- Set the View-Based Refresh, View Bound Scale, and Time-Based Refresh options according to the way you want the network link to behave. The default options are sufficient for many network links.
- Optionally, choose to have the browser fly to a view after a refresh. By default, this option is disabled.
- Click Next.
- Set the Latitude, Longitude, Range, Heading, and Tilt properties according to the way you want the network link to display. The default options are sufficient for many network links.
- Click Create to create the KML network link.
- Optionally, use ArcGIS Earth or Google Earth to edit the link, enhance its properties, or embed it within a new link. You can save the enhanced link as KMZ, then upload it to your server.
